Treating Others the Way We Would Like to Be Treated

At École Dorothea Walker Elementary, we believe in creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where all students can thrive. Our expectations are rooted in kindness, responsibility, and community.


We Show This By:

  • Using good manners and respecting ourselves, others, and property
  • Giving our best effort in both work and play
  • Making safe and wise choices for self and others
  • Hands, feet and body to self
  • Demonstrating HEART:
    Honesty, Empathy, Attitude (growth), Respect, Responsibility, and Thankfulness
  • Being punctual and ready to learn
  • Using appropriate language
  • Using technology responsibly and maintaining a positive digital identity
  • Following school guidelines and showing leadership


Rights & Responsibilities

  1. To Learn – Participate actively and respectfully
  2. To Be Heard – Listen and take turns
  3. To Be Respected – Be kind, use appropriate language, and care for property
  4. To Be Safe – Keep hands/feet/body to self, use kind words


Behaviour Expectations

  • Minor Incidents (e.g. rough play, rudeness, disruption):
    → Warnings, time-outs, loss of privileges, restorative conversations
  • Major Incidents (e.g. defiance, bullying, physical fighting, excessive physical force, vandalism):
    → Parent contact, contracts, alternate work location, time at home for re-set, suspensions
  • Unacceptable Incidents (e.g. violence, threats, weapons, drugs):
    → Suspension, legal involvement


Dress Code

Clothing must be clean, respectful, and appropriate for school.


Technology Use

Students must use personal and school technology responsibly, following school and district guidelines. This includes:

  • Respecting privacy and safety
  • Personal devices not brought to school as per the Ministry of Education regulations
  • Using school devices only when instructed by school staff
  • Treating others kindly online
  • Protecting the integrity of the network
